We try to discuss the future of the smart cities and needs of smart cities in the country. In this paper we present different views especially in the terms of todays Pakistani condition and needs.
The main drivers of Pakistans urban growth are high birth rates and migration from rural areas. Migrants are attracted to cities for better jobs and improved access to basic services. However urbanisation has inflated Pakistans biggest cities so rapidly that they struggle to deliver public services and create productive jobs.
Additionally the Vision-2025 envisages smart cities in Pakistan as the cities that are capable of adapting to increasing complexity and demand for knowledge communication while able to cope with increasing populations and city size. Another challenge in urban Pakistan is the intolerance towards the diversity of views and virtues for the future of Pakistan. On one hand are the conservatives who would like to see the economic growth of cities divorced from cultural evolution and diversity.
